It Came From a Cheapo Hosting Company!

It Came From a Cheapo Hosting Company! It was a dark and stormy night…

In the dank recesses of an unknown data centre, a mouse quickened its pace as it scurried by. A K-Mart fan whirred, swaying left to right, performing its laboured task of keeping 20 servers “cool”.

It had started out OK - just three servers. The setup was easy, practically out of the box. As more and more were added, however, the lack of planning and foresight had created something of a monster - a cobbled together mess of wires and machinery.

Outdated machinery, tangled and loose connections, and inadequate cooling made the whole setup behave erratically; dropping connections and crashing as though it had a mind of its own…

We at Gossamer Host pride ourselves in the execution of our hosting division. We ensure that the entire setup is kept organized and neat so that we can not only organize our servers, but our mindsets as well. We want to know where everything is, and how to access it.

So when we came across this data centre in such an appalling condition, we couldn’t help but say to ourselves, “What were they thinking?!”

Let us take you on a journey of a horrific nature…parental guidance suggested!

Ghoulish Cabling!

On the set of Superman 3 Cables Cables Everywhere!

My goodness, that’s A LOT of chaotic cabling. Does Superman 3 spring to mind? Anybody? Alright fine, I guess your birthday needs to be pre-1980.

Behold! The Servers of Old!

Blast From the Past!

These antique towers were state of the art during the Clinton administration. The 1990s style beige towers reflect their intense speed.

Preposterous Power Cable Placement!

Cable Nightmare A Maze of Cables

Let me just slide out this server rack and – Oops! Uh…you remembered to back up your data right?

Crazy Cooling!

Lone K-Mart Fan

A lone K-Mart fan keeps the temperature slightly cooler. If you notice to the left, the server racks are being propped up by a tower. Now that’s innovation!

Malformed Mounting!

What is the most useful tool when mounting routers? Zap Straps: Essential in Router Mounting Operations

And the award for best use of zap straps goes to: This data centre! For strapping a router to the side of the cage, with ports exposed and all!

And so ends our horrific journey into the world of cheapo hosting. Before you sleep tonight, ask yourself this: do you know what your hosting provider looks like?
