Introducing GT Office 2.0! (No, it’s not a publishing suite)

At the end of January, Gossamer Threads packed up its longtime offices in the historic Sun Tower and moved smack into the middle of downtown Vancouver. We’ve settled into our new digs quite comfortably, aided in part by some slick interior design. Read on to take a photo tour of the new Gossamer Threads!

The first thing you’ll see upon entering the office is our own “wall of fame” – a display of screenshots from a range of Gossamer-helmed web-projects embedded in a web of connections.

Entrance
Welcome to the new GT!

Being at the heart of the downtown core, plenty of Gossamer Threadians cycle to work. Hey, this is Vancouver.

Entrance
Looks like we already need a larger rack!

The nifty silver decals were designed and installed by Rod Tasaka at Surface Collective. Rod came in and consulted with us in order to create some cool, custom imagery which suited the mood and feel we wanted the new office to exude. Thanks, Rod! Be sure to check Surface Collective out if your walls could use a little sprucing up.

Our new kitchen features a state of the art automated coffee maker. No longer do we have to deal with the paradox of being too coffee-deprived to make the first pot of coffee. With the press of a single button we can get our first shot of sweet, black coding fuel.

Kitchen
Don’t let the spic and span cupboards fool you – they’re mostly full of chips and hot sauce.

Coffee Maker
Coders have been known to lay offerings at the foot of this great machine, hoping to earn its favour.

Our Perl coders have a Herman Miller desk-cluster of their own…

Perl Desks
Aki, hard at work.

…As do our PHP programmers.

PHP Desks
Welcome to the cubicle-free future!

Couches offer a chance to get away from the desks and brainstorm while stretching the legs.

Couch
Those shelves hold issues of Byte Magazine…dating back to 1978!

Our sysadmins have a corner of the office all to themselves, along with plenty of room and tools to assemble and customize our Gossamer Host servers.

Sysadmins
Carefully tracking traffic…

Server tools
Assembling servers is a messy job, but someone’s gotta do it.

We’ve set up a conference room for meetings with clients as well as in-house pow-wows. The super-large projection screen keeps everyone on the same page (and allows for after-hours Street Fighter tournaments).

Conference room
A seat at the table for everyone.

So there you have it! We’ve got a lot more space to work and create in, and we’ve had a number of new faces join our team. There’s plenty going on here at GT HQ, so stay tuned!

Nice. Office-space like that costs an arm and a leg here in Cork.
