Gossamer Threads has been donating blood as part of Canadian Blood Services’ “Partners For Life” program for some time now. That said, we’ve had a lot of people join the GT team since we first started organizing company blood donations, and some of the newcomers were perhaps a tad nervous about the prospect. With that in mind, we arranged for a presentation from Canadian Blood Services to be given at GT HQ.
We asked one of our co-op students, Mike Wu, to give us both a glimpse into life at Gossamer Threads as a relative newcomer, as well as what his work as a Quality Assurance Analyst entails. What follows is a story of bugs, barbecue and Big Two…
Gossamer Threads doesn’t just provide hosting for the David Suzuki Foundation, we’re also fans of their work. While we’re happy with our green roof and green composting and commuting habits, we’re always open to finding new ways to make GT a more environmentally-friendly company. Keen to hear more ideas, we invited some folks/Gayle from the David Suzuki Foundation to visit and plan out some new ways to make GT greener.
The habit of commuting by bike is on the rise here in Gossamer Threads’ home city of Vancouver. The mayor, Gregor Roberts, has done some pretty amazing things in 2010 around the city for the safety and comfort of bike riders (including the mayor himself). The biggest of these has been the installation of two segregated bike routes on two of the main arteries that pour into the central nervous system that is Downtown Vancouver. With all of this new accessibility, cycling is much more popular in Vancouver than ever before and there are a lot of folks at GT jumping on the bandwagon!
